This beautiful complex that belongs to Qajar and Pahlavi era is located in north of Tehran and in 9000 square meters area. The main palace was built in 1831 and completed in 1896 as the summer residence of Qajar kings and in a reed bed near” Gorde vey “ or “Gorde beh “ village out of Tehran  . The Persian equivalence of Reed bed in Persian is “ney zar”  ,So due to its location called “Ney avaran “ that changed to “Niavaran “ .
The first palace was built by Mohamamd shah; then Naser Adin shah built “Saheb qaranieh palace “and finally ”kooshk Ahmad shahi”   was the last palace that built in Qajar dynasty.
In Pahlavi era, some of small buildings were demolished and new modern Niavaran palace was built.
Saheb qaranieh Palace, Niavaran Private Palace, Ahmad Shahi Mansion, Jahan Nama Museum, Museum of Royal Library, Museum of Royal Clothes & Fabrics, Museum of Royal Family’s Vehicles and Inscriptions Garden are of the museums and palaces that are in this complex.
