Iran hosts the WFTGA in 2017

The world Federation of Tourist Guide Association is a non-profit, non-commercial and non-political organization which gathers tourist guides around the world every two years in the voluntary countries. Its main purpose is to promote market and ensure that tourist guides are recognized as the ambassadors of a country. Iran won the Prague election over Denmark and Singapore by 18 votes during its first year of participation, thus the inspectors from WFTGA accepted Iran as a reliable and safe host of the federation’s 17th international convention in January 2017. Sixteen conventions have been held since 1985 and Iran, the country of Friendly Faces, Open Arms, Ancient Cultures and Timeless Charms is elected as the host country for the next Convention.

Each WFTGA convention gathering is an ideal opportunity for the host country to introduce its tourism heritage and beyond that spread peace message to the world. The host country tries to invite as many tour guides as possible and provides them with fabulous plans during the convention and on pre-tours or post tours. Iran, as being elected as the Host Country, sets several committees and campaigns such as Come2Iran with the aim of showing Iran’s potentials in tourism industry and improving its image globally.
Ruby Roy the vice president of WFTGA and Ivana Curuvija the WFTGA’s Head of Training have travelled to Iran in January 2016 to observe the country’s facilities for the convention. This is how Ruby Roy thinks about Iran:
“Hidden treasures that travelers discover are what give them the best memories. Not only this is a charming treasures, it is a place with soul spirit because as the people who love it, share it and help us discover these beautiful secret corners. This has been one of the most memorable places that I have ever been. Based on the unbelievable hospitality of Iranian people, the great and the passion of tour guides for their country, Iran would be a great host for the 2017 convention.”
